24. Who is Satan or the Devil?

Satan is the prince among the angels who once fell away from God. He is the sinister adversary who wants to take away God’s rule of the world and destroy man forever. By seducing the first humans, he gained great power over humanity.

• Again, the devil took Him up on an exceedingly high mountain, and showed Him all the kingdoms of the world and their glory. And he said to Him, “All these things I will give You if You will fall down and worship me.” (Matthew 4:8-9)
• The devil has sinned from the beginning. (1 John 3:8)
• Be sober, be vigilant; because your adversary the devil walks about like a roaring lion, seeking whom he may devour. (1 Peter 5:8)
