125. How does true faith manifest itself?

  1. I have faith when I recognise God’s Word as truth.
    • The entirety of Your word is truth. (Psalm 119:160)
  2. I have faith if I agree with God in everything He says about me, the sinner, and my sin.
    • You have set our iniquities before You, our secret sins in the light of Your countenance. (Psalm 90:8)
  3. I have faith if I believe God’s words, promises and warnings.
    • God is not a man, that He should lie, nor a son of man, that He should repent.
Has He said, and will He not do? Or has He spoken, and will He not make it good? (Numbers 23:19)
  4. I believe in Jesus Christ if I entrust myself to Him, accept Him as my only Saviour and acquire what God offers me in His Son: new life through being born again.
    • Believe on the Lord Jesus Christ, and you will be saved, you and your household. (Acts 16:31)
    • For by grace you have been saved through faith, and that not of yourselves; it is the gift of God. (Ephesians 2:8)
    • I know whom I have believed. (2 Timothy 1:12)
    • For God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son, that whoever believes in Him should not perish but have everlasting life. (John 3:16)
    • But as many as received Him, to them He gave the right to become children of God, to those who believe in His name. (John 1:12)
  5. I believe if I obey Him and prove myself to be a follower of Jesus. The first steps in faith lead to a life of faith, to a lasting connection through faith with God.
    • By faith Abraham obeyed when he was called to go out to the place which he would receive as an inheritance. And he went out, not knowing where he was going. (Hebrews 11:8)
    • Watch, stand fast in the faith, be brave, be strong. (1 Corinthians 16:13)
    • So then faith comes by hearing, and hearing by the word of God. (Romans 10:17)
