179. What does it mean to pray?
Praying means: speaking from your heart to God.
- Let the words of my mouth and the meditation of my heart be acceptable in Your sight, oh LORD, my strength and my Redeemer. (Psalm 19:14)
Just as a son in a foreign country maintains the connection with his parents through letters, so we cultivate the connection with our heavenly Father through prayer. Prayer is when your soul breathes, the draft that sustains the fire of faith. That is why the greatest heroes of faith have always been the most heartfelt and urgent prayers.
Examples: Abraham, Moses, Joshua, Hannah (the mother of Samuel), Samuel, Elijah and Elisha, David, Daniel among the prophets, Paul among the apostles. Jesus is the greatest of all those who pray.
